Resident Fellows

Branford's Resident Fellows reside in the College and serve as a great resource for Branford students.

James E. Rothman, Ph.D. and his wife, Joy Hirsch, Ph.D.

Professor James Rothman is the Chairman of the Department of Cell Biology in the medical school and the Director of the Biodesign Institute on the West campus, and also a professor of Chemistry. He is a graduate of Branford, studied physics at Yale, biochemistry at Harvard, and his research concerns the mechanism of synaptic transmission in the brain. Jim's wife, Joy Hirsch, is a professor of Neuroscience at Columbia and an expert in functional brain imaging.  They are happy to meet with any Branford students interested in science or medicine, and to facilitate research opportunities at Yale or elsewhere.

David M. Walker, MD and his partner, Vic R. Tolentino, JD, MPH, APRN-BC

Dave, originally from New Jersey, graduated from Yale (Trumbull College), and is now an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and works as an attending physician in the Pediatric Emergency Department at Yale-New Haven. He is also a Clinical Instructor in the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program. Dave started the Pre-Med Mentoring Program last year, which pairs up Branford undergrads with medical school faculty, to get a sense of what a career in medicine is all about.  His partner, Victorio Tolentino, was born in the Philippines and raised in Nigeria and the United States. Vic was a Branford Graduate Affiliate and was an affiliate of the Yale World Fellows Program while a student at the Yale School of Nursing. He is a family nurse practitioner, but also trained in law (JD) and public health (MPH). In addition to his clinical work, Vic has experience in non-profit consulting, philanthropy and health care regulation.
