Kugan Sivamuni

Kugan was born and raised in Sungai Petani, a small town in northern Malaysia. Having not experienced snow before, he was hyped to see snow for the first time during his freshman year in New Haven. Kugan is an Economics major and spent the summer interning with the Boston Consulting Group in Kuala Lumpur. He spent his freshman summer studying Chinese in Beijing and did an internship with the Central Bank of Malaysia his sophomore summer. His favourite moment at Yale is when he finally started referring to it as ‘home’ his sophomore year.

At Yale, Kugan likes engaging with both the Yale and New Haven community. As such, he was the Chief Strategy Officer of the Elmseed Enterprise Fund, President of the Malaysian and Singaporean Association and still works at the Office of International Students and Scholars. He also tutors introductory Economics courses at Yale through the Science and Quantitative Reasoning Tutor Programme.

In his free time, Kugan unapologetically watches Grey’s Anatomy and Modern Family and started watching Game of Thrones this summer. What gets Kugan most excited however is traveling. He loves(!) discovering new places, cultures and meeting new people and makes it a point to get the best deals and travel whenever classes are not in session.

He absolutely cannot wait to welcome the Class of 2020 to the prettiest, best college at Yale!!!
